Over the past 15 or so years I go through periods of fits and starts where I dig into today's music, find my favorites, and fire up the workstation to create new mixsets.
I enjoy it, but I also burn out because it is a lot of free time spent doing a thing that gathers so few impressions. My main goal is to create mixsets that I can enjoy in the car or whenever I'm cranking out the Negronis on a Saturday night.
Still, any of us who has ever played in a proper nightclub will always have a feeling of nostalgia and loss when we're not behind the decks, seeing the crowd respond to what's next on the platter.
I have come to find a whole new crop of DJs doing things I never could have imagined in the early '90s. Thing is, like me, everybody else appears to be a DJ. I don't really have an opinion on that; if people enjoy it, that's fantastic.
