More About : Jeff Wros > Photographer (JW>P)
Born & raised in Honolulu I am a photographer with a focus on producing work about people primarily through wedding, portrait and freelance projects
Wedding Photography | Worldwide | Photo Uncommon
My primary offering is the wedding service, “Photo Uncommon”, which is designed to provide my clients in & around the Quad Cities and the greater Midwest with first-class wedding photo documentary services.
Personal & Documentary Projects | Worldwide | Various
I am of the opinion that any wedding photographer who chooses to use the “documentary” or “photojournalist” adjectives to describe the service they provide to clients should actively be engaged in personal documentary projects. As of the latest update to this page (04/2010) I am woefully behind on pursuing my own such projects. So much so that I even thought about removing this section entirely but I’ll leave it up because I know that it is only a matter of time before I clear the way to resume my personal work.
For the past few years I have been working on a small variety of projects that are designed to keep me behind the lens and helping to tell the stories of people or events that I am interested in.
In 2007 my focus on this type of photography took me to Brooklyn, New York to work with the wonderful team at VII Photo who helped me to learn so much in such a short amount of time. From my time there I produced what I now refer to as “part one” of my subway musicians series. I also produced a short project that showcased what was then thought to be the final “off season” before Coney Island shut down for good. Back in the Quad Cities I photographed the “Drummer Boy” project that was designed to give the viewer a bit of behind-the-scenes story of what goes into this part of a local Quad Cities Christmas program.
In 2008 I started a new project which took me to Portland, OR for three weeks to photograph the Portland Cello Project. The project focused on their rehearsals, down-time (they have none), studio sessions and a performance. The project was online for viewing and is currently being moved to its own dedicated website where I will better be able to add content as I continue photographing this wonderful collaboration of musicians in the years to come. The project continued this past October (2009) when PCP came through Urbana to play a show with Kill Rock Stars recording artists David Schultz and Thao with the Get Down Stay Down. Additional photography was created during PCP’s session at Rock Island’s Daytrotter Studios. This project will continue August 2010 when the group’s latest tour brings them back to the Midwest with dates that include Milwaukee and Chicago.
In 2009 I found a willing family in the Williams to start my latest project: Story of the Missionary. As the title suggests this project is about individuals or families who follow their calling to abandon the comforts of home in the USA to pursue what God is leading them to. Photography for the Williams family took place between February and May of 2009. As of this writing (10.23.09) I am still working on producing the online presentation. This project has suffered from a variety of behind-the-scenes circumstances which have all conspired to keep me from finishing the online presentation.
My planned 2010 projects are minimal as I have been working to focus attention on growing the wedding & portrait business. Without my clients I am unable to pursue these other works. I know I will be adding to the Cello Project set of images when they are back in the area in August. Other than this I think 2010 may go down as my least active year for personal projects.
Service Locations
I live in the Illinois Quad Cities area and primarily serve clients in the immediate area. Scheduled 2010 weddings include shoots in Des Moines, Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island, Silvis, Galesburg, Woodhull and more. Additional areas I have photographed weddings at in the last few years include Chicago, Philadelphia, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Rockford, Galesburg, Burlington, Dubuque, several areas in-between. While I acknowledge that I enjoy getting on a plane when I can I freely admit that, when it comes to wedding photography, the “where” is nowhere near as important as the “who”. Suffice it to say that, like most people, I can drive a car or hop a plane and am passport ready to cover events throughout the world.
Equipment
The “Tag Cloud” on the right-hand side of this page will probably give you some clues as to what I use regularly. For Photo Uncommon wedding assignments, portraits, and personal projects I use an ever-changing variety of equipment.
If you would like specific information or have set requirements for your shoot please contact me today. Otherwise, feel free to leave it to me to select the right combination of equipment to best photograph your event, session or project.
